For the processing of complex workpieces, circular feed motion with X, Y and Z axes is often required to complete the processing of such workpieces. The vertical machining center is usually completed by installing the fourth axis, of which the CNC rotary table is a typical device of this type. It can be realized by moving back and forth to feed the table. In addition to being used for various arc processing or curved surface processing in conjunction with linear feed, the CNC rotary table can also achieve accurate automatic indexing.

4th axis is simply, it can perform the feed indexing and the feed in the circumferential direction. Feed indexing refers to the indexing rotation or arbitrary indexing positioning of the workpiece within the range of 360° during non-cutting; the feed movement in the circumferential direction of the worktable refers to the same The three coordinate axes of X, Y, and Z are linked together to process complex curved surfaces, which brings convenience to the processing of box parts. For the vertical machining center that can perform automatic tool change and multi-process centralized processing, the CNC rotary table has become an indispensable part.

Technical requirements for the fourth axis

1. Basic requirements: It is necessary to make the journal and the fourth shaft even and close contact, and to have a matching clearance.

2. Contact angle: refers to the central angle of the contact surface between the journal and the fourth shaft. The contact angle should neither be too large nor too small. If the contact angle is too small, the pressure of the fourth axis will increase, and in severe cases, the fourth axis will be deformed greatly, which will accelerate the wear and shorten the service life; if the contact angle is too large, it will affect the formation of oil film and cannot obtain good liquid lubrication.

3. Contact points: The actual contact between the journal and the surface of the fourth axis can be represented by the actual number of contact points per unit area. The more contact points, the finer and the more uniform, the better the scraping of the fourth axis is, and vice versa, the poor scraping of the fourth axis. Generally speaking, the finer the contact points, the more difficult it is to scrape and grind.
