Compared with the turret spindle head of the CNC machine tool with tool magazine and automatic tool changer, since there is only one spindle in the spindle box, the spindle components have sufficient rigidity, so it can meet the requirements of various precision machining. In addition, the tool magazine can store a large number of tools for multi-step processing of complex parts, which can significantly improve the adaptability and processing efficiency of CNC machine tools. The automatic tool change system is especially suitable for machining centers.

Composition

The automatic tool changing system generally consists of a tool magazine and a manipulator. The automatic tool changing system of different machine tools may be different, which is the unique part of the machine tool.

1. Tool magazine

As the name implies, it is a warehouse for storing tools, that is, the tools used for processing parts are stored here, and are grabbed by the robot during the processing. There are mainly two types of tool magazines: disc magazine and chain magazine.

(1) Disc-type tool magazine The capacity of the tool magazine is about 30. If the capacity of the tool magazine is too large, the moment of inertia of the tool magazine will be too large. Generally, small and medium-sized machining centers use more disk-type tool magazines.

(2) The chain-type tool magazine has a large capacity, which can load 100 tools or even more. The chain-type tool magazine has a large capacity, mainly because the box-type parts have a lot of processing content, and the number of tools used increases accordingly.

2. Manipulator

There are various forms such as single-arm, double-arm, etc., and some machining centers do not even have a manipulator, and the tool change is realized through the relative movement of the tool magazine and the spindle

Tool Change Method

According to different realization principles, automatic tool change includes rotary tool post tool change, spindle head tool change, automatic tool change with tool magazine and so on.

The working principle of the rotary tool holder is similar to that of the indexing table, and the old and new tools can be exchanged by rotating the tool holder at a fixed angle.

When changing the tool change method of the spindle head, first place the tool on each spindle head. The purpose of changing the tool is achieved by replacing the spindle head by the rotation of the turret. These two methods have simple design, short tool change time and high reliability. The disadvantage is that the number of reserved tools is limited, especially the rigidity of the spindle system that replaces the spindle head and the tool change method is poor, so it is only suitable for machine tools with few processes and low precision requirements.

The automatic tool change method with a tool magazine is composed of a tool magazine, a tool selection system, a tool exchange mechanism and other parts, and the structure is relatively complex. Although this method has the disadvantages of many tool changing processes and complicated design and manufacturing, but because of its high degree of automation, it is widely used when processing complex parts with many processes.
