SPLF90 Epicyclic Planetary Gearbox For 750 W Servo Motors
The SPLF90 is a 90 mm square-flange epicyclic planetary gear built for a 750 W class servo motor. A single stage covers 4:1 to 10:1, a second stage takes it to 70:1, and holding torque runs as high as 100 N·m - quoted ratio by ratio rather than as one figure for the frame. Body length is 110 mm on the single-stage unit and 132 mm on the two-stage, at 1.6 kg either way.
Where the 90 mm frame sits in a drive train
A 90 mm square flange with a Ø80 mm spigot and a Ø20 mm output shaft is the frame that follows a 750 W servo. It is the step up from a 60 mm unit when the axis has real mass behind it: 3D printers and desktop machines still appear here, but so do CNC machines, textile machinery and cutting machines, where the load is continuous rather than intermittent.
What changes when you step up from the 60 frame
The flange grows from 60 to 90 mm, the output shaft from Ø14 to Ø20 mm, and the motor nose from a 400 W pattern to the 750 W pattern. Torque headroom goes up with it: this frame is quoted to 100 N·m where the smaller one stops at 30 N·m. The trade is weight and envelope - 1.6 kg here against 0.9 to 1.2 kg, and a body roughly 36 mm longer.
The gear train: what "epicyclic" actually means
An epicyclic planetary gear set has three working parts. A sun gear sits in the centre, three planet gears ride around it on a carrier, and a ring gear encloses the whole group. Drive the sun, hold the ring, and the carrier turns slower than the input by a fixed ratio - that is the reduction, and because the load is shared across three meshes at once, a gearbox planetary train carries far more torque than its diameter suggests. Turning that backwards, a planetary gearhead of this size holds 100 N·m inside a 132 mm × 90 mm envelope.
The SPLF90 uses one such train in the L1 build and two in the L2 build. Each additional reducer planetary stage multiplies the ratio again and adds its own backlash, which is why the accuracy grade and the efficiency both step down between the two versions.
Torque per ratio, not one headline number
The datasheet gives holding torque against each individual ratio, so the figure you need is the one on the row you are actually ordering. Both tables below are transcribed straight from the SPLF90-L1MA and SPLF90-L2MA sheets.
| SPLF90-L1MA ratio | Holding torque |
|---|---|
| 4:1 | 80 N·m |
| 5:1 | 90 N·m |
| 7:1 | 60 N·m |
| 10:1 | 39 N·m |
| SPLF90-L2MA ratio | Holding torque |
|---|---|
| 16:1 | 90 N·m |
| 20:1 | 90 N·m |
| 25:1 | 100 N·m |
| 28:1 | 90 N·m |
| 35:1 | 100 N·m |
| 40:1 | 90 N·m |
| 45:1 | 100 N·m |
| 50:1 | 90 N·m |
| 70:1 | 70 N·m |
The 750 W servo nose: Ø19-40 / Ø70-3 / Ø90-M6
The input is defined by three figures and all three have to match the motor. The shaft is Ø19 mm and 40 mm long; the spigot is Ø70 mm, seated 3 mm deep; the bolt circle is Ø90 mm with M6 screws. In the drawing that appears as Ø19g6 on the shaft and Ø70H7 on the bore. That is the standard 750 W servo nose, which is what lets this frame mount directly without an adapter plate. Where a servo motor and gearbox are bought as one package, these are the three figures that have to agree between them. The servo shaft is gripped by a clamp rather than a keyed bore.

Two stage counts, two accuracy grades
Choosing between the two builds is a trade between reduction range and precision. The single-stage L1 keeps the tightest accuracy and the best efficiency; the two-stage L2 buys the higher ratios and pays for them in backlash and losses.

The nameplate carries the build in short form. A unit marked SPLF90-05MA is a single-stage 90 mm frame at ratio 5, and it leaves with a serial number stamped on the same label, which is how a unit is traced back to the ratio and motor interface it was assembled to.
The same unit is asked for under several names
Depending on the trade, this 90 mm frame arrives in an enquiry as a planetary gearhead, a servo gear motor or a servo reducer. Shortlisting usually begins with a search for planetary gearbox manufacturers or for a planetary gearbox supplier, and orders in quantity are quoted by ratio and frame rather than by catalogue number - which is why the precision gearboxes in this range are always specified straight off the ratio tables above. Every one of those routes ends at the same three questions: the flange you can bolt to, the ratio you need, and the motor nose.
