Product Introduction

The SPLF60 is a precision planetary gearbox in a 60 mm square flange, sized to sit between a 400 W class servo motor and the axis it drives. Two ratio bands cover 4:1 through 70:1, holding torque reaches 30 N·m, and backlash is held to 10 arcmin on the single-stage units. The short body weighs 0.9 kg - that is the point of this frame: it is the size you fit when the axis is small but the positioning still has to repeat.

Why a 60 mm frame is usually the right starting point

What the frame size buys you

A 60 mm flange on a Ø58 mm body is the compact planetary gearbox that drops into the envelope of a desktop CNC, a printer gantry or a small cutting head without crowding the axis. It takes a 400 W class servo straight onto its input, so no separate adapter plate is needed. Once the load passes 30 N·m, or the reduction has to go beyond 70:1, you step up a frame size. Below that, the 60 mm frame is the small planetary gearbox that gets specified when the axis is tight on space.

Where the 60 mm frame shows up

Because the motor bolts directly behind the reduction, this is an inline planetary gearbox: no offset, no right-angle housing, nothing added to the footprint. 3D printers, CNC machines, textile machinery and cutting machines are the four places it is specified most often - anywhere the motor is small, the travel is fine, and holding position matters more than raw torque.

Two ratio bands: what the L1 and L2 stages do

The SPLF60 is built in two versions. A single planetary stage (L1) spans 4:1 to 10:1 and gives the tightest accuracy and the best efficiency. A second stage (L2) opens 16:1 up to 70:1, and charges 5 arcmin of backlash, two points of efficiency, 16 mm of body length and 0.3 kg of weight for it. Stay on L1 unless the axis genuinely needs the extra reduction.

Matching the motor: the Ø14-30 / Ø50-3 / Ø70-M4 interface

Specifying a planetary gearbox for servo motor use comes down to the motor nose, not the motor power, and on a servo axis this part is usually listed as a servo gear reducer or a servo motor gearbox. The input side is fixed by three figures, and all three have to line up with your motor: a Ø14 mm shaft 30 mm long, a Ø50 mm spigot sitting 3 mm deep, and a Ø70 mm bolt circle with four M4 screws. That combination is the standard 400 W servo nose, which is exactly why the SPLF60 mounts to that motor class without an adapter plate. The motor shaft is held by a clamp coupling.

Output side, for the machine builder

Output shaft Ø14h7, keyed over a 25 mm section. The mounting flange is square 60 mm with four Ø5.5 mm through holes, an R40 mm corner radius and four M4×12 tapped holes. Output spigot Ø50h7. Height from the mounting face to the end of the shaft is 35 ±0.5 mm, and the lower housing is 31 mm tall. Full outline drawings are available on request.

The numbers that decide fit

These figures are common to both bands, so they do not change when you move from a 4:1 unit to a 70:1 unit. If your search started from servo gearboxes, or from a planetary gear motor, the deciding question is still the two bands above and the three input figures already given. Inside a band the precision gearbox tolerances hold whatever ratio you pick, so the ratio is a speed decision rather than a mounting one.

Reading SPLF60-L1MA and SPLF60-L2MA

Three parts carry the whole specification. SPLF60 is the frame - a 60 mm square flange. L1 or L2 is the stage count, which sets both the ratio band and the accuracy grade. MA is the motor interface variant, the 400 W servo nose described above. The nameplate repeats it in short form: a unit marked SPLF60-05MA is a single-stage 60 frame at ratio 5. To quote, send the ratio you need, the stage band, the motor shaft diameter and the flange pattern.

From inspection to the box on your bench

The serial number is the trail

Every unit leaves with a nameplate serial - the sample in the drawing set reads S/N H20220700. It ties the gearbox to the ratio and the motor interface it was built to, so if the reduction or the motor nose is not what you ordered, that number is where the tracing starts.

What the datasheet fixes before it ships

Backlash ≤10 arcmin on L1 or ≤15 arcmin on L2, noise ≤60 dB, protection class IP54, and an operating range of −10 °C to +90 °C. Those four figures are the acceptance values the unit is built and inspected against.

Packing

Each gearbox travels in its own carton with EPE foam, and the nameplate and ratio stay readable without breaking the seal.

The housing is supplied in the silver and bronze finish shown in the photographs. Send the ratio and the motor flange pattern, and we will confirm the correct SPLF60 build and the lead time.
