HLF060 Spur Gearbox For Servo And Stepper Motors
The HLF060 is an inline spur gearbox built to sit between a NEMA stepper or a small servo motor and the axis it drives. It takes the motor's speed down through one, two or three stages and multiplies torque on the way out, so a compact motor can hold a heavy gantry, a printer bed or a textile spindle without stalling. Ratios run from 3:1 to 500:1, output torque reaches 41 N·m, and the sealed housing is rated IP65.
How to pick the size for your axis
Start from output torque, not motor power
Read the heaviest steady load the axis carries and add the friction of the guides. A single-stage unit covers 12 to 31.5 N·m; the two- and three-stage units reach 41 N·m. Peak torque at start-up and braking is twice the rated figure, so a load that spikes briefly is usually still inside the unit.
Match the ratio to the speed you need
Ratios 3 to 10 are the direct-drive choices when the motor is already close to the right speed. Ratios 12 to 50 trade speed for torque on routine axes. Ratios 60 to 500 are for slow, heavy positioning where the motor would otherwise cog.
Check the flange against the motor you already have
The HL060 body is 60 mm square. Three input variants are published: servo (14 mm input shaft), and two stepper versions (8 mm or 6.35 mm shaft) with different stop diameters. Match the stop diameter and bolt circle to the motor drawing before ordering - the mounting holes are M4 or M5.
Decide how tight the axis has to be
The straight-tooth design is chosen where the load is steady and the budget matters. If the axis is reversing constantly at high speed, or backlash has to stay near zero, a planetary reducer is the better fit and we will say so rather than sell you the wrong one.

Reading the model code
A published example is HL060-L1-10-14-50-70-M5: HL060 body, single stage (L1), ratio 10:1, 14 mm input shaft, 50 mm stop diameter, 70 mm bolt circle, M5 mounting holes. Two-stage units are marked L2 and three-stage L3, and the body lengthens accordingly - 113 mm for L1, 129 mm for L2 and 143.5 mm for L3.
| Motor attributes | Input shaft R1 | Stop R2 | Bolt circle R3 | Mounting R4 | Output shaft C1 | Stop C2 | Bolt circle C3 | Body length L1 / L2 / L3 |

All dimensions in millimetres. The flange is 60 mm square with 4 × ⌀5.5 through holes.
Where this gearbox is used
Straight-tooth HLF units turn up on equipment where the load is predictable and the axis runs a lot of hours: 3D printers and other desktop CNC platforms, machine-tool feed axes, textile machinery, and cutting and packaging lines. The common thread is a small servo or stepper that has to move a load heavier than it could drive directly.
Order with it: the motor you have chosen, and a coupling or clamp that suits the output shaft. Tell us the motor model and we will confirm the input variant against its drawing before the order is released.
Quality control you can verify
- ▪Each unit is assembled with the ratio and stage count stamped on the label, so what arrives can be checked against the order.
- ▪The housing is sealed and rated IP65 before dispatch - ask for the rating of your batch if it matters to the installation.
- ▪Permissible radial and axial limits (400 N and 300 N) are published, so an overhung pulley or an over-tight coupling can be caught on paper before it becomes a warranty return.
- ▪Packed one unit per box, wrapped in EPE, with the label facing out for inspection on arrival.
